man, I fucking love this. themusic is pulling out some gems. Billy prince Bonnie, (will oldham and many other incarnates) is something else. kind of like a rought virginia wine. it takes some time to get past the harsh tannins and taste the lovely red soil and sun soaked fermentation jiuce.

This is one of the best songs in the world. so sad, so inspirational.

many nights…we’ve been out drinkin’…many times we shared our thoughts

but did you ever notice…the kinds of thoughts I got?

you know I have a love

a love for everyone I know

And you know I have a drive

to live I won’t let go….

BEAUTIFUL. He’s got the best civil war beard ever too. He’s like on the front line with a bayonet, this fucking guy.

Rick RUbin was ther mastermind behind this collaboration and most of them with Cash, for htat matter. he also helped neil diamond get back int he game with 12 songs. He si the super-shaman of the record business. He strips you down to nothing until you give in and then he builds you back up with you own talent and raw emotion. I want to hear him get a hold of Bob Dylan and get a 6 string back in his hand. I truly believe we would hear the old Dylan that had his head in the fire of the Gods. He says he can’t do that anymore, but before Dylan leaves this earth, I think we will hear it. I’m alrerady so sad for the day we lose bob dylan. His music is like comfort food. Bringing it all back home is like a big bowl of mac and cheese on a hungover Sunday afternoon to me. Its medicine. I’m rambling. I’m drunk. Its Friday night and I’m typing on the computer like some dipshit, but I love getting all these thoughts out

Johnny Cash & Bonny Prince Billy - I See A Darkness

How’s this for a re-imagining of a song? Take a song that you wrote and recorded, and perform as a backup singer on a new recording of it.

‘I See A Darkness’ is my favourite song (not just by Bonnie Prince Billy, but ever, I guess) so I’m a bit torn about this cover—rougher-sounding than I would like, on first listen anyway—but on the other hand it’s Johnny fucking Cash. And this is a rare instance of where I love reading drunk-blogging because that was just perfect, typos and all.
