The Beatles - “Baby You’re a Rich Man”

I think this is a very underrated Beatles song. There needs to be more music that sounds like this in the world.

Also, I might be crazy, but I think Devendra Banhart could do a really cool cover of this song.

Reminds me of two things: still have not heard anything by Banhart, which apparently must be remedied as soon as possible. And I will forever have to listen to “Nowhere Man” immediately after this song, because the 1999 Yellow Submarine soundtrack was the first CD I ever owned. (My parents raised me well.)

“Dagger of the Mind”: as a television episode, could have been better. Interesting concept, I guess, but the execution of the plot didn’t really work for me. But as something so full of gay, I can’t even, it was SO GOOD. (@agraylamb: you were completely right about the subtext; I can see why you really like this episode.)

Best points:

- Van Gelder and his crazy face lulzing up every scene he was in
- BOOOOONES! Love the episodes where he is isn’t just on screen, but actually has dialogue. So many of them are rip-offs. (I’m looking at you, “A Piece of the Action”)
- Spock wearing that fab earpiece again, BONUS, and McCoy wearing his scrubs all over the place, BONUS BONUS.
- ~~Nimoy~~ Spock making all these possessive expressions—so many good ones to choose from, but BEST is at 46:43-52. “Seriously? You’re kissing a lady again? wtf is my life”
- The first half of this episode is so good re the triumvirate/trinity/whatever pairing—Spock and McCoy are just being awesome with each other, you have Spock being all “lol, problem, Captain?” when Dr. Noel shows up (what was up with her inexplicable fawning over Adams, ugh. Even Kirk wasn’t that bad with his fanboying), not to mention McCoy invoking Kirk’s safety to get Spock to act (!!) on the mind meld. And McCoy’s casual possessiveness re the captain’s chair at the end of the episode! Just, so good, I love their dynamics. (idk, too many lovely close-ups on Kelley’s face so now I’m incoherent)
- which reminds me, and I know this has been touched on by many other people a million times, but I lol’d HEARTILY at the mind meld being a “hidden, personal thing to the Vulcan people”. Sure, Spock. So you start melding with things right and left. Including walls. “Part of our private lives”, got it. (Though, there is something to be said for how rarely he melds with Kirk. And McCoy.)

…The combination of lulzy facial expressions (so many), forced heterosexuality, and overwhelming gay is obviously a potent one. (Too bad I don’t think I can expect the same high from “Miri” next week.)
